Spread duration is displayed in years and reflects the contribution by sector to the portfolio’s total spread duration with the exception of the Treasury and Interest-rate swap sectors where effective duration is displayed. Spread duration estimates the price sensitivity of a specific sector or asset class to a 100 basis-point movement, 1%, (either widening or narrowing) in its yield spread relative to Treasuries. Effective duration provides a measure of a portfolio’s interest-rate sensitivity. The longer a portfolio’s duration, the more sensitive the portfolio is to shifts in the interest rates. Allocations may not total 100% of net assets because the table includes the notional value of derivatives (the economic value for purposes of calculating periodic payment obligations), in addition to the market value of securities.

Jump up ^ “ZeekRewards Receivership Website”. 2015-02-27 Generally, if investments make more money than they cost, they can be considered good investments. Most successful investors are what can be called hedged risk-takers. That means that they will take risks periodically if they can afford to, but they never take more risks than are considered necessary to accomplish their goals. Although there are investments that historically have reaped more financial rewards than financial disasters, many more are nothing more than bottomless pits that continually feed the never-quenched thirst of speculation. They seem to always promise great returns but seldom seem to deliver.

Determining which investments are the “best” investments is not a “one size fits all” endeavor. Everyone starts saving at different ages, with different goals, different incomes and expenses, and varied retirement expectations. All of these factors affect which investments are most likely to fit your particular needs. Your decision may be further complicated by the investment options made available to you by your employer.
See all 8 customer reviews Divide the annual dividend amount but the annual EPS. If the result is over 85% or so, then be cautious. A mild EPS reduction could result in a dividend cut. Some businesses like MLPs and REITs can go above 85%, but for most other companies, this is the red zone.

Junk bond funds: A 180-degree pivot from government-backed Treasury bills, junk (also called high-yield) bonds are debt issued by companies whose financial credit worthiness is deemed to be below “investment grade.” That typically means a credit rating of BBB or lower. To be sure, the big money was made in junk last year when the fear factor for defaults was at code red; the average junk bond fund gained more than 45 percent in 2009 as confidence returned to the market. Steve Romick, manager of the go-anywhere FPA Crescent fund (FPACX) made a bold junk bet in early ’09 when yields were above 20 percent, but he still sees value in junk even though yields have come down dramatically. “We’re getting 8 percent and I think that’s going to be better than the stock market over the next few years,” Romick recently told Morningstar, noting that with the economic recovery taking hold “credit risk is mostly behind us.” Vanguard High Yield Corporate (VWEHX; 7.8 percent yield) delivers a diversified junk portfolio with a cheap 0.28 percent annual expense charge.

BTC About Motif P&G has been in transition for several years as it implemented a restructuring plan designed to improve its long-term growth potential. What are municipal bonds? 403(b) Comment Today’s situation is difficult enough to forecast something without risks and choose great investment opportunities. You should remember the rule: “Your investments should be in the field you’re interested in and you have knowledge about the sector and subject of your investment”. As for me, I should try to buy undervalued assets or assets that reach low and waiting for several years (may be more). And somebody can invest more money and have another BEST STOCK TO INVEST. I would like to claim that investing is a personal thing for everyone and depends not only the quantity of your money, but also on your strategy and many other details.
Capital Investment Mobile & Apps In my summary, I am going to briefly cover several advantages of high yield bonds and respectively closed-end funds which invest in this asset class. Because the high yield sector generally has a low correlation to other sectors of the fixed income market, along with less sensitivity to interest rate risk, an allocation to high yield bonds may provide portfolio diversification benefits. In addition, high yield bond investments have historically offered similar returns to equity markets, but with lower volatility.
Miller/Howard’s People Folks, do your research and due diligence. You will in almost every case listed above loose money to inflation and/or fees. I would never do business with any major financial institution, especially Merrill Lynch. They (MERRILL LYNCH) solicited me through a phone call back in the 2000’s and I listened to their pitch and invested my 401k in their fund picks. Every one failed miserably and years later I saw they got in trouble for this very thing by the SEC because they were in it for the fees and expenses and not for my success. Important lesson learned for me and since, I have found numerous places to get investment info. There is a saying no risk, no reward. That is very true. If you want any decent return (10-20%+), you must be able to stomach some risk. You just have to get used to some losses. Nobody is 100%. There are many groups out there who have some great ideas that would support higher returns for some risk, and not everything I have found with any one org is 100% for me. I have to pick and choose the pieces which I feel benefit me. The Motley Fool, Stansbury Reasearch, Oxford Club, Formula Stocks Pro, Zacks, Fisher investments all have pieces which, if you spread the risk, will produce returns beyond anything this article even hints at. Don’t line the pockets of your investment manager, PAY YOURSELF and manage your own money. Reasearch some of these and you will see for yourself. Don’t let someone talk you into believing a lie. There are returns out there. Those wall street guys aren’t super human. You are just as smart as them and you don’t need a degree in finance or economics to know where to invest your money. There are so many baby boomers out there that they see opportunity to cash in on their (OUR) financial ignorance. Take control of your finances and you will be a success. Didn’t mean to write all this but it’s true. America, we need to teach our children financial success at a young age. Just saying.

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway made generations of investors very rich by paying no dividends (unfortunately, Warren Buffett’s years on earth are numbered, and he also admits that his company has grown too large and won’t have the same growth it enjoyed in prior years). A diversified basket of dividend stocks, such as those above, can do the same for you today.
